You've got the principle down! Nice job with emphasizing detail, but to get right down to the best uses for this kind of technique you might want to experiment more with images that are difficult to expose properly with the camera alone. Check my before and after album [link] to see examples of a few other images that have benefited from the use of the techniques in this tutorial.

The nice thing about this technique is that it gives you a lot of control over the final outcome so that you can make different adjustments to suit any image.
